Commemorating the Fifth Anniversary of Li Wangyang’s Death

6 June 2017 is the fifth anniversary of Li Wangyang’s death. The HKCTU held a candle light vigil at Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier, with some 200 mourners commemorated him. Interviews of Li Wangyang and his friends were broadcasted, mourners brought flowers and signed condolences to pay their respects.

Liu Shaoming was Sentenced to 4.5 years Imprisonment for Defending Freedom of Expression

In the morning of 7 July 2017, Liu Shaoming, a Chinese labour activist charged with “Inciting Subversion of State Power” for publishing his memoir of Tiananmen Square Massacre, was sentenced to 4.5 years imprisonment at the Guangzhou Intermediate Court. On the same day, HKCTU and other labour organizations launched a protest at the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government, to demand immediate release of Liu Shaoming and urge the Chinese Government to respect freedom of expression.
