The Flight Attendant Union (FAU) demonstrated what is meant by “Solidarity is Strength”. To protest against benefits cuts, the FAU launched industrial actions from May 19th. Through gradual escalation of actions, the company was prompted to negotiation with the union on May 29th. The president of FAU, Ms. Dora Lai, shared her views on the strategies and effects of the actions.
Canto-Pop Sings Hong Kong’s Working-Class Blues
HONG KONG — A labor group’s cramped office in a nondescript building in working-class Kowloon is not where one would expect a producer to be working on his latest Canto-pop release, a musical genre known for syrupy ballads, upbeat hits and photogenic stars. But “WildFires,” a compilation of songs about Hong Kong’s blue-collar workers, is not a typical album.
Industrial Action of CX Flight Attendant Union
Cathay Pacific Flight Attendant Union (FAU)is affiliated with HKCTU, and ITF. On May 19 2015, it held EGM to decide on two motions: 1) to agree the Airport Sit in and 2) authorize ExCo to escalate further industrial action if needed. The EGM of FAU was attended by more than 600 members and the two motions were adopted. A Marathon Sit In began after EGM and bus will be arrange for Members to proceed to the HK airport.
Dockers in HK port get 5.5% pay raise, Union “unrespected!”
Subcontractors in Hong Kong dockside revealed pay raise of 5.5% for 2015. The spokesperson of the Union of Hong Kong Dockers said “We are feeling regretted and unrespected”. The Union will have internal discussion whether further action will trigger shortly. The Union demand for 8.5% pay raise for this year.
Collective Bargaining Rally 2014
HKCTU organized an annual rally on December 7th 2014 to call for the right to collective bargaining and to demand for 7% pay rise. The rally went to different headquarters of big corporates such as Swire, Cheung Kong and the Government Headquarter. The protesters wrote down their wishes on yellow ribbon and put it on the gate of government headquarters.
Instant Update for Umbrella Movement
A large number of people are strongly discontented with the continuous attack on peaceful demonstrators from "Loving Hong Kong force" and "Voice of Loving Hong Kong", over a thousand people come for support, surrounded the mobs, and shouted, "Safeguard student, maintain justice!" Those mobs have been taken photos by the demonstrators; they will certainly report the case and ask the police to enforce the law!
