More than 10 members of Jasic Workers Solidarity Support Group were arrested. Including NGO workers in Pingshan and local union officials.

After the “successful end” of the 17th National Congress of the All China Federation of Trade Unions (hereafter: ACFTU), people who involved in the Jasic Workers Solidarity Support Group (hereafter: Support Group) were suppressed by the Chinese Government. On 9th November, the police in Guangdong Province broke in the Support Group members’ house in Guanzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, and arrest the members.

The arrestees including Peking University Graduates, Sun Min and Zong Yang; Liang Xiaogang from Shanghai and Wang Geixia from Guangzhou. Zhang Shengye from Peking University was arrested at the campus. The establishment of Marxism Societies in different universities were interrupted by the university management. They also allowed the police to arrest the students inside campus, therefore they are controlled by the Chinese Government.

After the crackdown on the Support Group on 24th August, dozens of people were arrested, but then released and sent back to their home town. They were forbidden to go to school. Xu Zhongliang, Zheng Yongming, Yang Shaoqiang were detained and under surveillance. They cannot meet the lawyers. On the other hand, some people including Yue Xin and Gu Jiayue were detained by the police, and people outside cannot get in touch with them.

According to the information from the Support Group, even people outside the Support Group start to be arrested. Ngo officials and even union officials from local ACFTU were arrested. The founder of a social service NGO in Pingshan He Pengchao, the official Wang Xiangyi and other workers were arrested. Also, 2 Pingshan local union officials were arrested. This shows that after the crackdown and suppression in August and September, the government’s suppression on the JASIC struggle is still not ended but even harder.

Till 11th November, university students Tang Xiangwei and Wu Jiawei, and activist Zheng Shiyou were arrested by the Guangdong police. Therefore since July, 32 people were arrested due to their involvement in the Jasic struggle.
